Megan Lam is a Grade 7 student at Colonel Irvine School in Calgary, Alberta. Her love of reading started at the age of 2. Megan’s favourite book genre is fantasy because it usually involves dragons and other mythological creatures. Her favourite authors include Rick Riordan, Roshani Chokshi, and Madeline Miller. Megan enjoys reading, writing, drawing, badminton and wrestling with her two dogs. When she grows up, Megan wants to be a veterinarian, however, she is not looking forward to the amount of science classes she may need to take!

“Writing for the contest was a great creative outlet for me. It encouraged me to write about different things and to be more critical when editing and figuring out how my stories needed to develop and grow. But I didn’t win the contest the first time – in fact, it took me four tries. To young writers who are feeling unsure or discouraged about their writing – don’t worry about it! Have fun and enjoy the process because you write the best when you’re interested and engaged. It can take multiple tries to get it right, and that’s just how writing, like everything else, goes. In the end, striving for a contest or something similar is great, but write for you first and foremost!” – Megan Lam
Delaney Cox is a Toronto-based illustrator. She graduated with a bachelor of illustration from Sheridan College in 2022. Delaney is passionate about creating stylized worlds driven by landscape and character narratives.
