Celebrating Young Authors - Fostering Creativity Together

We thank all the Teachers, Principals, Parents, Librarians, and Volunteers who Inspired Participation in the Kids Write 4 Kids Creative Challenge.

We are thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s Kids Write 4 Kids creative writing contest!

Every year, we at the Ripple Foundation are astounded by the talent and creativity of young authors nationwide. This year was no exception, with talent shining brightly from all 448 participants from 293 schools across eight provinces and two territories. Each entry was a testament to our young writers’ fantastic imagination and creativity, and each story inspired us.

Our judging panel of authors, editors, publishers, and winners from last year’s contest selected two stories from ten finalists, rated on creativity, originality, story structure, and writing quality. We want to extend a huge congratulations to our two selected youth authors:

  • Path of Thorns by Myah Rathi Litteljohn, Grade 7 (Northlea Elementary and Middle School, East York, ON)
  • A Piece of Me (Collection of Poetry) by Alina Xiao, Grade 8 (John Knox Christian School, Oakville, ON)

And to the runners-up:

  • A Cat’s Journey by Olivia Callaghan, Grade 4 (Dr. Robert Thornton Public School, Whitby, ON)
  • Alien Attack by Ethan Leung, Grade 7 (Webber Academy, Calgary, AB)
  • The Adventures of The Gannet by Lyra Gibbons-Doyle, Grade 6 (Elgin Street Public School, Ottawa, ON)
  • The Artist, Heather Dong, Grade 8 (W.H. Morden Public School, Oakville, ON)
  • The Enchanted Emeralds by Charlotte Clement, Grade 7 (William A. Fraser Middle School, Abbotsford, BC)
  • The Janitor’s Closet by George Ng, Grade 5 (John Knox Christian School, Oakville, ON)
  • The Museum Heist by Fiona Stockley, Grade 7 (Lincoln Alexander Public School, Markham, ON)
  • The Ninth Clan by Mehaa Mayooran, Grade 7 (Milne Valley Middle School, North York, ON)

We want to take this opportunity to celebrate all the participants. We encourage each of you to continue honing your skills, keep putting pen to paper, and never stop sharing your stories.

Path of Thorns and A Piece of Me will be published in print and digitally for the world to read. These books will be available at Amazon, Google Play, Apple iBookstore, and Overdrive. Proceeds sold in 2024 will be donated to Myah Rathi Litteljohn and Alina Xiao’s charity of choice – Childhood Cancer Canada.

In addition, we are extremely excited that Jiaxin Zou (aka. Flora) , an illustrator 2024 graduate from OCAD University, has graciously volunteered to lend her talent and time to illustrate the covers for our winners’ books. Flora’s unique style and artistic vision will undoubtedly add a beautiful dimension to these wonderful stories.

We extend our heartiest congratulations to the winners and express our gratitude to all the teachers, principals, parents, librarians, volunteers, and everyone who has made this contest a huge success. Initiatives like these help cultivate our younger generation’s creative spirit and love for reading and writing.
